Why Birth?

Birth is our first Rite of Passage, and initiates us into our Self. It is the start of our life cycle, and therefore influences how we are in the world, every moment of every day.

So, how we choose to birth our children is of vital importance, a sacred experience that will influence the rest of their lives, and our own.

In this Shamanic Dimensions of Pregnancy workshop, we reclaim Birth in all its forms, as the Rite of Passage into Motherhood: the moment when we step into our full creatrix power.

Whether you are birthing a human baby or supporting those who are, whether you are birthing a new version of yourself, a project or career or work of art, this workshop will help you understand your generative, birthing process as not just a physical transformation, but an emotional and spiritual one, as well.

In this workshop, we learn from each other’s stories, reframing birth as a normal, natural and healthy process in which we can trust.

By bringing consciousness to the birth process – our own and those of our children – we deepen our understanding of ourselves. We look for these themes and patterns playing out in our lives, and from this position of awareness, we have the opportunity to reframe our experience and learn the lessons we need to learn in order to empower ourselves in the future.

“The Shamanic Dimensions of Pregnancy workshop invites women into a deeper understanding of the sacred and transformational nature of pregnancy, birth and our generative creative energy.”

Jane Hardwicke CollingsFounder

Workshop Structure

The Shamanic Dimensions of Pregnancy workshop begins with the creation of a safe container – a cauldron of love and intimacy to hold us throughout the day.

We hold each other and listen with the ears of our heart to our sisters and ourselves speaking.  We pool our embodied wisdom.

In this sacred space we allow ourselves to feel our feelings and be with whatever is arising, offering compassion and love to ourselves and each other, as we share and reflect on the various faces of our birth experience.

The major theme running through the day is birth, and we reflect on how and why birth has become so medicalised and for so many, traumatising.  We look to feminine birthing wisdom, what has been lost and what is being reclaimed.

We reinstate birth as a powerful, trustworthy and natural rite of passage.

Our own Birth is the beginning of our life cycle and is thus a powerful imprint or story of how we do creativity, and birth things in the world.

In this Shamanic Dimensions of Pregnancy workshop, we bring consciousness to our own birth story and the births of any children and projects.

We identify patterns and themes through self-reflection, sharing in pairs, and sharing in circle (and of course, all of these processes are entirely invitational and voluntary).

In undertaking this important work, we open ourselves to new possibilities and clear the way for our inherent and abundant creativity.

In current society, we are taught to fear birth, and to mistrust our own body’s wisdom and knowing.  This generates fears around the birthing process and our own capacity to bring our children/projects/selves into the world.

Within the loving container of our workshop circle, with consciousness of our own birth stories and all we bring to birth from our red thread/mother line, we acknowledge our own fears and the fears around us.

We dig deeper here and uncover the beliefs we have that enable that enable these fears and begin the process of examining these beliefs.  We ask of ourselves, do we even believe the belief required to have these fears?

We co-create a beautiful ritual to release these fears, and to once again trust our body’s capacity to birth.

We reclaim our feminine wisdom and intuitive knowing.

Drum Journey
The drum is a powerful tool and you can travel via the drum beat to the deep pools of wisdom within and without. In this drum journey you connect with your baby in your womb, your soul baby (babies you have ‘lost’ or who are yet to come) or your inner goddess/ shaman.  Birth is a collaborative effort!

My interest in bringing and offering this information is to help how I can in healing the wounded feminine and the wounded masculine of our patriarchal culture.

My mission is to help women reclaim feminine knowledge and wisdom, to help heal birth, menarche, menstruation, menopause and death, for all my relations.

I represent three lineages:

Home birth Midwifery –  ancient wise woman practices passed down the generations that I learned from Maggie Lecky Thompson (Australia).

EarthSong (Boulder, Colorado, USA) Shamanic Teachings and Practices – that I learned from James Harvey (AKA BlackBear) and Cedar Barstow.

Shamanic Midwifery – the teachings and insights of the Late Jeannine Parvati Baker (USA).

I work with groups and privately in 1:1 sessions.

At the heart of my work is a passionate belief that every woman deserves to know her ecstatic birthright — and to live her fullest, most radiant potential.
